Mt. Pico de Loro's Parrot's Beak
My boyfriend had gone mad after a retrenchment took place in his company. He was depressed because: (1) He wasn't part of the lay off; and (2) Most of his friends were retrenched, meaning he was left alone in his cubicle surrounded by empty chairs and tables.
These are the proofs he went cray cray, photoshop-ing himself.
These are the proofs he went cray cray, photoshop-ing himself.
But this story isn't about him. He needed some therapy and the best way to get him back to sanity is mountain climbing (and doing the photo above). Thus, Pico de Loro in Ternate, Cavite.
It's my second time in Pico de Loro and I just wanted to redeem myself from the first one that I had because I was a pussy I didn't even try going to the famous Parrot's Beak.
This time, there were five of us who joined my boyfriend's craziness.
Dennis, Kiko, Toots, Phil, Gem, and Da |
We met up at around 5 am in Baclaran to board a bus en route to Ternate (P80) then rode another tricyle (P225) to DENR. Well, we all know the drill and why don't we fast forward to the main event, shall we?
Cut to: the jaw-dropping Parrot's Beak
I still can't believe we managed to reach the summit in 2.5 hours compared from the last time I've been here. I feel that my body got stronger and lighter! Char. But kidding aside, Sir Kiko is a living testament on how we can get stronger and leaner by mountaineering. Haha! He was our pacer and not even a sign from him getting tired.
He used to be this:
Good Job!
Big thanks to the good weather, I didn't worry about a puddle of mud I might slipped into. It was such a perfect day, indeed. And a big factor why we trail blazed.
Though no mudslides, we were challenged by the short assault going to the summit since the soil is very loose and there's a little to grip on to.
Now here's to the fun part. Remember my boyfriend wanted to put up an office on top of the Parrot's Beak? He failed his mission. :( Instead, he settled "working" on top of Pico de Loro's summit. Career!
Additional craziness won't hurt as the rest of the group had their own way at the beak.
Phil doing his I-just-got-out-from-shower pose.
Me trying to be pa-cute teenybopper
Toots who looks like he came straight from the mall.
Sir Kiko with his YOLO pose in trunks and goggles.
Dennis who didn't have a clue about this costume party.
And Dada who's disappointed he wasn't able to bring the laptop on top of the Parrot's Beak
We descended the mountain non-stop in 1.5 hours. Not bad! Now, I already redeemed myself climbing the Parrot's Beak and will definitely climb this mountain again.
I don't know about the therapy if it works, but who cares? Craziness will take us to places we've never been before. Haha profound!
Till next climb!

Check out my video on our Mt. Pinatubo day hike last week. Made this one as an excuse to write about it Haha. I'm too lazy. Enjoy!

Mt. Nagsasa in action
Concluded my summer with a taste of Mt. Nagsasa followed by a nice swim in the waters of Nagsasa Cove! My camera went out on the first day and there's no source of electricity so I only got a few video shots. Anyhow, thanks to Group Hugs for creating the event. :)

Mt. Balagbag in action
Something I enjoy aside from blogging is making videos so here's what happened yesterday in our Balagbag hike. I'll blog about our journey some other time. Meanwhile, enjoy the simple video I made :)

Mt. Pico de Loro Traverse
Still wasn't contented with the Batulao climb I had a few days back, I capped off my week with yet another climb at the famous Pico De Loro to satisfy my mountain fix (if there's a thing like that). Again, this was no ordinary as we were surprised by the series of events.
Everone was looking good as we boarded a mini bus to Ternate, Cavite at 4am. Joining with me are Alain, Jojo, Rein, Sir Kiko, and Da (our photographer).
We arrived at Ternate at around 6am and Rick, who also climbed Batulao, tagged along three more to witness Pico De Loro's beauty.
From there, we took a tricycle to DENR for registration of P20 then a good five-minute walk to the jump-off point.
First hour of the hike was easy as taking a leisurely walk in the park.
Though not a bit tiring at first, we had to do stop-overs for group pictures like these

An hour or so, we reached a shaded area called Alibangbang where another registration of P20 is required. They also sell souvenir tags for P50 I think. Beyond this point is where the challenge is.
Here's Alain, a real good and humble photographer, registering at the Alibangbang. Check out his website to see more of his amazing photos.

Parts of the trail were getting muddy and steeper unlike the first part as we ascended to the the summit.
taking a breather while we still got time |
We realized we were slowing our pace and by the time we reached the summit campsite, it was already noon. Here's the view of the summit from the campsite. Hell, there's another five-minute assault to get to the Pico de Loro's peak.

Before conquering the summit, we wolfed down our packed lunch and I tell you, it was the best we've had. Then took some rest to get ready for the most awaited part.
The 5- 10 minute assault to the Pico de Loro's summit nearly killed me and so was most of the group. Good thing trekking pole comes in handy.
After grueling hours of walking, climbing, hiking, and and everything in between, we finally reached the summit!

Mt. Batulao (Labor Day Climb)
One hot afternoon of April 30, my spontaneous of a boyfriend posted a status in his Facebook.
Mt. Batulao on Labor Day? Why not? I was bored, I needed another getaway, and the last time we went there (August 2011) didn't offer much because of the bad weather.

So, me, together with four others decided to do an impromptu climb yesterday.
